Agates of many types, colors and forms can be found through out the world. And, Mystic Crystal and Gem is very fortunate that many can be found in California and Arizona. Agate is primarily found around volcanic activity, such as in volcanic flows, but it is also found in veins, interstitial fillings and other  environments.

Agates are members of the Quartz family. It is a mineral called chalcedony with a trigonal crystal structure and hardness of 7.

The name comes from the river Achetes in Sicily. Where artifacts and Agates have been found in ancient excavations. They were also utilized in ancient India and Egypt even before 3000 BC.

As to the metaphysical and spiritual properties of agates they are generally regarded as stones of lower vibrational frequencies than some other stones, but this is regarded as being a stone of more strength and stability.  The wide variety, colors and forms offer the wearer  a complete spectrum of choices.
